You see for many of us the problem is not what we don't have or what we are not but the lack of knowledge or revelation of what we do have and who we truly are. In the case of Adam and Eve we find that the devil was able to use their lack of knowledge to trick them into sin. The devil did not even have to lie. He was cunning enough to use their own lack of knowledge to take to a place were they would parish. The devils words enchanted Eve. He basically confused her into acting on her own. I'll explain what I mean. In Genesis Chapter 1:26 the word says; "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness"
The bible uses the word "image" which in Hebrew is "Tselem" which means to shade; a phantom, i.e. (figuratively) illusion, resemblance; hence, a representative figure, image. It's interesting that the word shade is used. When a tree gives shade, it gives shade with what? It's shadow! The shadow of a tree is exactly like the tree. When you walk and you cast a shadow, your shadow is an outline or an image of what you look like. Your shadow is cast in your likeness. If you take an object and cast it's shadow on a wall the light will cause the shadow to be exactly like the object. You will be able to see every imperfection in the outline on the wall that is on the object. The bible further cements our likeness to God with these words; resemblance, a representative figure, or image.
In Genesis Chapter 1:27 the word says "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." So not only was man created in the image of God or like God but we see that woman was as well. It seems like I'm stating the obvious but stay with me here. Let me just give you some more scriptures that confirm that just like Adam and Eve, we are all created in the likeness of God and in His image.
1st Corinthians 11:7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
Ephesians 4:24And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Colossions 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him
James 3:9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
The truth is that the number one example that we are created in the likeness of God is Jesus the Christ. When we say that we are created in the image of God or in His likeness it means basically that if God were to take human form He would look just like us. This is why Jesus was not this Giant or some extraterrestrial looking creature or even some kind of animal or walk on four limbs or anything like that. Jesus is the physical representation of what God is. So are we. God does not look like us, we look like God. Jesus was not only His physical representation but was also spiritually, mentally and entirely like God. He was able to heal the sick, set people free, cast out demons, have authority over this earth and His surroundings and resist the devil.
Jesus also depended on the power of the Holy Spirit because He is the power with which Jesus performed His miracles. Jesus was "lead" or influenced by the Holy Spirit into the desert for 40 days but returned with the "power" of the Holy Spirit and started His ministry from there. Before Jesus was empowered by the Holy Ghost, no miracle would have taken place, in fact none did. What kept Jesus connected to the Holy Spirit here on earth was His constant prayer and His holy life. He knew no sin, the second our sins were cast on Him, God the father turned His sight away from Jesus and disconnected Him for those brief moments while Jesus paid the price. God is too holy to behold sin or be connected to it. This is why Jesus cried out "My God My God why have you forsaken me?"
I have kind of drifted but it is still very relevant to what I am trying to get across. The same way that Jesus was like God, so are we and so were Adam and Eve. I'm trying to drive home to you the simple fact that Adam and Eve were always "LIKE GOD!" In Genesis 3:4-5 the bible says; "And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." In Hebrew the word for serpent is "Nachash" which means: to hiss, whisper a (magic) spell, to prognosticate certainly, divine, enchanter, enchantment, learn by experience, indeed, diligently observe.
Prognosticate: to forecast or predict (something future) from present indications or signs; prophesy.
Enchanter: a person who enchants or delights, a magician; sorcerer, One that delights or fascinates,
Enchant: To attract and delight; entrance, attract; cause to be enamored
In fact they also knew no sin and were in constant connection with God and in His presence always. They already were "as gods" or in other words like God. Notice that when this all took place they heard God coming from another direction meaning they were not next to Him or around Him in other words in His presence. It is when we leave God's presence that we are in trouble and are liable to attack and to fall. Because they were not in His presence the devil was able to play with Eve's mind. The devil was able to convince her that through the actions the serpent was urging her to commit she would attain something she already had. He enchanted her with words and was able to convince her to obey him instead of God with promises that she would receive something she was already in possession of.
The Bible further explains in Genesis 3:6; "And when the woman saw." The Hebrew for saw is "ra'ah" which means: advise self. That's where we get in trouble. We advise our self. Instead of taking this newly discovered information to God and asking for His knowledge and what to do with it, Eve took it upon herself and figured things out on her own. The serpent (Devil) was able to enchant her with words. He was able to make her lose focus on everything else around her, including her husband and herself and have her concentrate on what he was saying to her. The key part here is that He told her that if she did eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil they would be "Like gods" The devil didn't even lie, he used the truth but he twisted his words. They were already like God.
We begin to see just how important it is to know who you are and what you have in the Lord. If you don't know what you got then you don't know when you lose it. If you don't know what you have then someone can use that lack of knowledge against you. Again "My people parish for lack of knowledge!" I urge you brothers and sisters to get on your knees and begin to work on your personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Make sure your connection to the Lord is always intact and make sure that you are walking in the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the life containing breath of God, without it we have no life. Most of all make sure that you are fully aware of what you have been given and what you are entitled to as a child of God.
There is nothing worse then a believer who is perishing because of lack of knowledge. Many of us like to blame the devil, other people or even God for some of the current situations in our lives but what we don't do is look inward. Look inside and see if you are connected to God, are you spending enough time with His son? Have you received the power of the Holy Spirit to fight the devil and take what is yours. The bible says "the violent take it by force," you cannot take anything unless you have been empowered by the Holy Spirit. How do we know what we are entitled to and what we have in Christ you ask? The living word of God contains all your rights, all your promises and all your weapons in Jesus Christ. I challenge you to be like God today. Be like God taking time to pray with Him alone, be like God by walking a holy life, be like God by walking in the power of the Holy Spirit and changing your life and other's lives through that power. Do not be like Eve and be distracted by words and compelling arguments, do not take it upon yourself to figure things out but do what Jesus did, obey the father in everything, put Him first in all, in every aspect of your life. Give him priority, consult Him in everything and I mean everything. If you do this I garauntee that your life will change and you will begin to live on earth as it is in heaven.
I leave you with this brothers and sisters
Matthew 6:33-34: "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
