Two years ago, Nick Pipitone and Peter Batchelder went on a mission, gathering once a week to write a song. The challenge was to finish that song in one night. The first song they completed was titled "The Overthinker" and they both were very pleased. The next song they wrote was equally good. So now their project became ambitious. And that ambition turned into passion. They had chemistry. Which was made evident by the fact that their arguments were as heated as their disagreements. "The Overthinker" later became known as "I Thought It Over" and would go on to become part of their debut album, "Esque." Somewhere along the way they decided they needed to be called something and since they were not hindered by any musical influence, they came to The Rip Off Artists. it's all there, pieces of Bacharach and Costello, Lennon and McCartney, John Barry and Jon Brion. For a project that started out to simply write songs, it's ironic to say that it is more of a cohesive piece of work, greater than the sum of it's parts.
