The Sea

A true classic.

Four friends who have known each other for ages are playing music together. They listen to the same records and watch the same movies--they learn from each other and teach each other.

What is even more important is this: They fight their cause together. In this band, no musicians have been replaced like it has become common practice recently.

THE SEA take their time. This is romantic in a way. Kind of old-school. Their music can be described in quite a similar way.

If THE SEA were tourist guides to their own music, they would ask that you tumble freely, without a care, through the complexity of their songs. You would find that it's the radical contradictions within the music that make it unforgettable--sounds that don't seem to belong together at first listen, and a singer who at first sight seems to belong in another decade.

THE SEA create a unique musical aesthetic that further exposes these seeming contradictions--the simple and the complex combined to create a sound that could easiest be compared to early Prefab Sprout played through the lenses of 90s indie rock. The whole thing is backed by a performance free of any irony, which makes it an even deeper experience.

Musicology or fussy instrumental skills would surely only obstruct this band; that is why THE SEA come across surprisingly playful. Clearly not everyone's cup of tea, but that too is perfectly okay.
