B.R. Bickford has made music under the name The Strugglers since the early aughts, releasing three full-lengths, an EP, and numerous compilation tracks. He has toured the U.S. and Europe extensively, sharing the stage with acts such as Destroyer (with whom he toured Spain and Portugal), Smog, David Bazan, Magnolia Electric Co., Greg Weeks, Centro-matic, and Castanets. Bickford is currently shopping the new Strugglers album, The Latest Rights, around to labels. Those interested labels may contact him band here.
A number of critics have praised past Strugglers albums:
"[You Win] is a truly wonderful album that catapulted to my top-10 list for 2005, and it's highly recommended."
-Delusions of Adequacy
"Bickford's[voice] is strong and resonant. It attains the precarious ratio of gentleness to rawness that makes a singer memorable. It's musicians such as Bickford--pursuing individuality while honoring the greater tradition-- who distinguish themselves from the legion." -Pitchfork
"Bickford's voice is essential: Cracking and persistent, surviving though stranded, askance posturing elevates Bickford's personal vignettes past the point of clever. And that's what The Strugglers are."
-The Independent Weekly (Raleigh-Durham, NC)
"[You Win is] an enjoyably morose album that will appeal to fans of The National as well as anyone looking for a more intelligent Smog. "
-Comes With A Smile (UK)
"Low-key personal odes to the time before Paxil®"
-The Hook (Charlottesville Weekly)
