Just because I like to share funny things... Sep 17
I'm passing along this list. O.K., I also realized I hadn't posted anything in awhile, but I really, really do like this! The first time I read it (a couple of years ago), I laughed 'til I cried, my sides hurt, and I nearly peed my pants. Then I forgot what it was called. Senior Moment. They're starting to happen. Anyway, I rediscovered it! WARNING: some of the following is definitely off-color. With that warning, here is:
The 213 Things Skippy Is No Longer Allowed To Do In The US Army.
A Little Something I Wrote... Sep 3
...quite some time ago, actually. And since then, I've revised it a bit, and nearly doubled it in length. I'm trying to find a market for it now; I've sent it out once (no response). In this form, it's about 2700 words. The revised, expanded form is a little over 5000. Just to bring you up to speed, the stanzas in the scene breaks are verses from an old Scottish folk song, the inspiration for this piece. And so, without further ado......
Chocolate Flirtations Aug 11
No, this isn't a skin flick, or a new "specialty store", but it IS the title of a writing round robin! Last Spring, I was invited (along with several other authors) to help write a story where a hot-headed young career woman runs into a hard-headed business owner, and there's chocolate involved...
Bad thing / Good thing Aug 8
So....the bad thing is, I haven't posted anything in two weeks. The good thing is, I've written three song lyrics (and come up with a tune for one of them), and a children's story that I'm submitting to a contest.
In defense of romance readers... Jul 23
I'm a voracious, compulsive reader with a book-a-day habit. I've been reading since age 4, and my mom loves to tell about my first day of school. She picked me up, and started the usual post-school mom questions. I replied kindergarten was a waste of my time--we didn't read any books, the teacher just told us stories, and made us color pages!
I've read across genres, time periods, styles. But you know what still draws me in, time after time? What words make me go warm and tingly all over?
Welcome to my little corner of the 'verse. I never really intended to start a blog, but...never say never. I'm a writer, musician, wife of one, mom of 6 (plus however many people my kids happen to have in tow), and grandmother of two. Don't let that fool you--I still love to dance (even in the living room with my daughters), stay up waaay too late, talk for hours with my "g/fs", have been rappelling and rock-wall climbing in the last year, and I stand outside and howl at the moon whenever I feel like it. In April 2007, I was privileged to attend the five day long Romantic Times Booklovers' Convention in Houston. It changed my life. Although I've been in love with words--spoken, sung, or written--all my life, and have been putting stories on paper since I could hold a pencil, I'd never seriously pursued my dream of being An Author. That convention changed me, made me believe that, not only did I have stories to tell, there were people outside of my family who wanted to listen! This blog, while it may be a "catch-all" for miscellaneous bits and pieces of my life, is all about my journey. I started it when I wrote my first poem at about age six; you're welcome to take a peek.
