The Northern Conspiracy front man Joe Day was a prolific songwriter long before attending Mars Hill and has graciously allowed the Mars Hill worship department the use of his songs for years. His songs For Your Goodness, I Surrender and The Glory of God are arguably some of the strongest songs in the Mars Hill cache. Though the band’s influences may not always directly inform their music stylistically, the studiousness of the bands vast listening habits are apparent (Emmylou Harris, Tom Waits, The Arcade Fire).
The Northern Conspiracy’s main goal is to appropriately respond to God’s initiation. While this may seem like a given for any worship band, Day explains that this is a focal point for their approach. “Our main goal is to continually examine how we craft our response to the scripture we are studying. Basically,” states Day gleefully “we just want to rock…with strings”.
Day is joined by longtime friend and music collaborator Seth Fikkert on drums along with Fikkerts wife Lauren on vocals, Audrey Stout on cello, Dennis DeMercer on bass, Craig Marais on violin and Jackie Marais on piano.
Big acoustic trio Feb 17
Since Craig & Jackie are in Hawaii, I decided to switch things up this week and to a trio with Seth & Audrey. Wasn't sure how it was going to turn out, but it ended up being a lot of fun and sonically really cool.
