There is a ton of shit that I FEEL like I've written about, but judging by activity of this website, I obviously haven't. Time to play the "What's TUFTSMANIA been listening to over the past year game"!

These Brazilian gangsters known as The Twelves have been putting their disco-keyboard touch onto to tracks around the world like a really good sounding case of HSV. They also do absolutely fuego-breathing original productions, some of which you will listen to in short time.

Here are two originals that are definitely ????? in my iTunes library. (sidebar: Do you use the star rating feature? do you use half stars?)

Keyboards (very many), hand claps (very many), synthy disco drums (very many) and tambourines (very many). All these create a monster that vomits, shits, pisses glorious sounds.

And most recently, here's a remix of The Brighton Port Authority, which gives you a good example of what The Twelves can do with their remixes (and how awesome they sound).

The original song featuring Iggy Pop is pretty amazing, but it is far from fit for use (ha haaa! I made electro pun!. RIP) in da clubbzzz. It sounds like the 12s dudes pretty much created their own score for the vocal track on this piece. This is one of the few (if not only) very welcome Iggy Pop remakes.

UPDATE: SORRY EVERYONE, apparently the original upload of this track was corrupt and only played 40seconds. It's fixed now, I love you all please re-download this and play it forever.

Make sure you cruise to their myspace and download the mixtapes, both episodes. (STELLAR). seriously.

hit the jump to see supplemental videos of them playing their originals with electronic instruments.

PPPS: the only thing I watch on the internet is Mr. Chi-City3. (whoop, take notes)

Pacific! has been a love in my life for almost 2 years now. Not to be confused with the (also awesome) band Pelifics, whom I've featured recently, Pacific! has a somewhat similar smooth sound.

This one's remixed by Fuzzz Whitaker, and I don't know shit about him, other than this track is chill2themax. end of story. (HOLLER AT ME FUZZZ)

Next is a remix of an utter classic. (haaaaz udder). Listen. This is Findlay Brown (tite), and he's been given a tiny edit by Pilooski (MAD FUEGO K-POP). It's just the right thing to ease into right after a classy dinner party when people have a baby buzz on red wine and you're getting ready to pour the scotch.

Sit down, close your eyes, slouch down on the couch... you can take your pants off if you want to.

Everyone's favorite Hamburg native D.I.M makes something I like to call "wildly productive music". You Have a listen. It's akin to popping Adderall as if they were M&M's.

It will turn you super focused on whatever you're doing. Including dancing. You will glaze over, becoming a zombie jackin' on the dancefloor. This one is off of D.I.M's earlier release with Turbo and is also the title of the 7 inch, Sysiphos. Get learned, and get focused.

These were received quite some time ago and I was buried with work at the time. I still am. But since I've decided to not care anymore they're gonna show their pretty little faces right here.

Way back when (blog years), ZZZ remixed the Bag Raider's "Fun Punch". an epic single. It was a hit, and now they're back with another $$$$$$ piano-filled-face-melting-trip.

Bag Raiders is now returning the favor and remixing ZZZ's FUEGO track, "Lion". (and the great big gay australian circle jerk lives on, in a good way.) A bit of the pianos have been deleted in favor of our favorite Bag Raiders outer-galaxy space sounds.
...
AND I WANT TO FUCKING CRY. this is what dreams are made of.
This isn't to say that the original isn't worth a listen, because it's magnificent on it's own.

It's sad that the majority of my posts refer to the fact that that I don't update as frequently as I should. This is one more of those.

Either way, I still listen to a shitload of music, and I still don't give a fuck about hype.

♥ u all.

Anyway, here's one from Whitest Boy Alive's new venture. I've mentioned them in the past via a great Fred Falke remake, but this is an original of theirs. Believe me, WBA's originals don't need edits, Falke's just being generous here.

This track is from their upcoming "Rules" album, (which is stellar -out in March 09). Immediately starting the song you'll notice those soft wurlitzer-esque keyboard riffs and an extremely crisp rhythm section -something I appreciate these guys for.

But as soon as the bridge rolls through... GAME OVER watch out for the staccato synnnttthhhssss!

Don't worry, I didn't forget about all the club banger freaks -most importantly Wolfgang Gartner didn't forget. He's been one of my favorite producers lately and his original shit has been nonstop stellar.

I picked out some pretty obvious samples in "Hookshot", anyone else?

I'll have to be honest, I was hot on the Bloody Beetroots since their existence, but lately, I couldn't give a fuck. I can't find my first beetroots post, but it was before I started tagging my posts. Not gonna waste time looking for it, but if you're so inclined be my guest.

That's why I'm posting this now, because the new Cornelius EP is definitely an evolved and more mature sounding Beetroot. That doesn't change that fact that they're faggoty mask wearing italian DJs though.

on low-end marketing bashing

image: tuftsmania via flickr

As you read this, an email sent by myself is floating through a series of tubes and will ultimately end up at someone's computer. The person who reads (or doesn't) this email will:

0. read then delete
1. delete
2. read and laugh
3. read and angrily respond
4. read and respond with ":)"
5. read and respond but then get sidetracked by internet pornography.

Any of these is fine by me, because I'm going to post it here without first waiting for any kind of response from the other end -why? Because I can.

Here's the story:
I've been getting a new kind of email. First I thought it was a neat new distribution scheme, but I started getting the same style of email from different 'labels' and 'artists'. I thought nothing of it, but the low bitrate files kind of bothered me (along with the mediocre music). I thought it was maybe a fluke and I'd get some higher quality ones but they kept coming.

Here's what it looks like:

Today we are here.

Anyone know what their deal is? I feel like they're from the same marketing firm/agency. I've never heard of ANY of these labels and/or artists either so it seems possible that they're actually just different aliases.

I wrote a pretty pissy rant a while ago, and again, and probably will again, but that isn't the point.

This is an amazing gem I came across while in France a couple years ago, by way of Silicon Boogie (RIP). Anyway, I've been on the heels of half of Silicon Boogie aka: Golden Bug ever since and here's something to get you hooked. (also check out the label mashup which houses all their side projects. Silicon Square Garden. + houses the other half of Silicon Boogie's new project "ROVE DOGS")

I'm gonna try to keep things short here. @beccabot is on board to drop mad science here on tuftsmania and report from NY as she's doing field work at the Blip Fest. Say sup to her and/or pat her on her gravity defying head of tufted hair.

A shit ton of new music has been coming in and I've been falling back on listening to it all. I have managed to listen to a few submissions and some are pure shit, but some are top-shelf ace. Here are some of the aces and none of the shit:

From their newest EP, the Bag Raiders are bringing some intense original productions. This is a self-edit of Turbo Love meant for the floor with a longer intro, less vocoder, more bang, and a seriously build up to a gigantic finale that you can mix into universal favorite of your choice (insurance to fill the floor).

Moulinex turns this Tellier track into something more familiar with his disco-house remix. Clean bass, the familiar Moulinex synth, and the ever necessary extremely solid 4/4 disco rhythm -I could repeat this track all night.
Sebastian Tellier - Kilometer (Moulinex remix)

You CANNOT stop CUT/COPY. I don't give a fuck what you think. At all. If you can't feel this track, you have no soul.

Allow these to hold you over until the next time. At this rate, probably in 6 months. ♥ (hopefully I'm exaggerating)

PS BONUS:
image: tuftsmania for tufts vs cits

I've posted about this phenomenon in the past, but it's just starting to become the norm. Just like black presidents. (totally doubt he really actually is black, something must have ramped up to his melanin production as a child.).

Anyway, concrete jammers -Bag Raiders is at it again, having sexual relations with their 1st cousin, Cut Copy. They may be on separate labels, but all blog/electro/crackhouse bands that come out of Australia I lump under the same label: Bandular 12 inch Cutters. All the fuckin same. Didn't u hear? Modular is in a financial crisis. Why aren't they closing up shop? because they are part of the Bandular 12 inch Cutters dynasty. Everyone knows that nobody fucks with the Bandular12inCTTRS dynasty.

That said, some people were talking shit on this remix, and you know what I say, "fuck'em" (shouts, D, micronesia, ponhpei ♥ u) This shit is on fire and a half, burning up on your doorstep.

It's been HOW LONG? and I still can't get enough of the Bag Raiders signature spiraling rainbow road synth. ♥

I will definitely lose points with the hipsty party scene because I don't have any Dim Mak or Supreme (Krista Ayne for Supreme) stickers. But you know what, officially, for the record, -FUCK EM.

BUT don't take that as me losing interest in their great production because, believe me, I've haven't and been keeping up.

This track hasn't been their latest, but it has been one of my recent favorites. It's a cute little remix of The Prairie Cartel (their bass player knows what's up) and it kills.

Due to circumstances out of my control, blogging can't happen with any reasonable amount of frequency. AAPL is announcing something new next Monday Tuesday, and hopefully sometime soon thereafter I will have a legit-for-real platform to curate mainstream pop music from.

Until then, waking up to a little Mehdi by Joakim, Digitalism by Fred Falke, then Macho will always brighten anyone's day -even if your computer is broken.

MSTRKRFT, Soulwax, Midnight Juggernauts... it seems like anything these guys remix has high replay value -even if the original track sucked.

Proof:

Usher - Love in this club (MSTRKRFT 'picks up the pieces' remix)
[See post to listen to audio]
- The original made me break my speakers -had to go out and purchase new ones in order to listen to the MSTRKRFT remix. The remix made me feel less pissed off at the original version.

LCD Soundsystem - Get Innocuous (Soulwax 'what they should have done' remix)
[See post to listen to audio]
- The original was minimal, shitty, and it put me to sleep. The Soulwax remix remains along the same vein -except it's minimal, awesome, and keeps me awake. very important. (i'm really down with minimal, actually. Just not when it sucks.)

***CSS - Left Behind (midnight juggernauts 'all we have to do is look at it' remix)***
[See post to listen to audio]
- I have only listened to CSS remixes. I am pretty sure their original tracks don't even exist.

***the stars mean you should listen to it more than once. many times. and it's not that shitty transcode that's been floating around.

This is my challenge: to MSTRKRFT, Soulwax, Midnight Juggernauts, and anyone else....
