The details of my life are quite inconsequential.... Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low-grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a 15-year-old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize; he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes, he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament... My childhood was typical: summers in Rangoon... luge lessons... In the spring, we'd make meat helmets... When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds -- pretty standard, really. At the age of 12, I received my first scribe. At the age of 14, a Zoroastrian named Wilma ritualistically shaved my testicles -- there really is nothing like a shorn scrotum -- it's quite breathtaking... I suggest you try it.

Jessica Simpson was in India filming for her new reality show “The Price of Beauty.” We were going to write something snarky about her going native but others did a better job.

She’s also sporting a bindi which is the final nail in the coffin for her country music career because there are two things you don’t do in that genre: Be a minority or look like a terrorist. Now, I know what you’re thinking: India had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11, and you’re absolutely right. However, you’re employing things like book smarts and facts which, according to southern law, means Alan Jackson has the right to throw copies of the King James at your face until you drink a two-liter of Mountain Dew. Them’s the rules.

Like the Beatles before him, Kanye West will chill out in India for a while, presumably to return with a kaleidoscope double album’s worth of classic new material. Following his no-show at Saturday’s BET awards, multiple sources report that he has decamped to an ashram in Pondicherry for a month, where he’ll meditate and, we hope, find the inner peace to recover from Taylor Swift’s outrageous victory over Beyoncé for Best Female Video last month.
Hollywood Cracking Down On Bollywood

Now, Hollywood is paying Bollywood a compliment of its own. Instead of ignoring the plagiarism, American moviemakers have begun suing their counterparts in India, a sure sign that this country’s booming, $2.2 billion-a-year film industry has arrived as a global player.
Rural Art In Mumbai

Art lovers in Mumbai can get a glimpse of a rarely seen contemporary art form at two galleries this month: work from rural or tribal areas of the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

In the exhibit “Now That the Trees Have Spoken,” the Pundole Art Gallery (369 Dr Dadabhai Naoroji Road; 91-22-2284-1837; www.pundoleartgallery.in) is displaying the colorful work of the artists Bhuri Bai, Ladoo Bai, Ram Singh Urveti and Narmada Prasad Tekam. The nearby Chemould gallery (Queens Mansion, third floor, G. Talwatkar Marg; 91-22-2200-0211; www.gallerychemould.com) is showing the works of the celebrated painter Jangarh Singh Shyam and his family.

In addition to showcasing these artists, the exhibits raise an interesting debate: some resent the easy labeling of rural artists as” folk” or “tribal,” arguing that such categories pigeonhole artists and prevent them from getting the respect they deserve.
