About

Turtle Writing is the project name of composer and guitarist Nick Cosimano. Nick's potent and contemplative acoustic guitar sound began to emerge at the age of 10. At that time, he discovered the music of William Ackerman, David Cullen, Don Ross and Michael Hedges. "I had been listening to the Seattle grunge sound, but these acoustic guitarists uncovered my love for melody and earthy tones. My acoustics fret-board became worn, and my electric began to collect dust."

Under the influence of the above guitarists, Nick flirted with alternate tunings and began collecting them in a small spiral bound notebook aptly titled "Nicks tunings." "I never like to dwell on a single tuning too much, but I find no matter what tunings I use the music always seems to come back to common ground. The notebook is over 50 pages, and includes composition titles paired with the tunings. A thumb through the pages shows an impressive array of seventh tunings.

Nick approaches the guitar with a unique, two-finger picking style that impresses other acoustic musicians. "Its unbelievable how much melody and sound Nick delivers picking with only two fingers," says musical friend and song-writer Matt Durfee. "He is a phenomenal musician."

On stage, Nick creates an honest atmosphere, and delivers a wide range of emotions to his audience without pretense. "When composing, I try to take emotion and its imagery and translate them to music. When performing, that translation produces a feeling far more calming than I had ever anticipated."

In addition to his live performance schedule, Nick is currently working with Windam Hill producer and musical mentor, William Ackerman on his untitled debut release alongside Michael Manring on bass and Eugene Friesen on cello. One of his compositions is included on the first Woodsongs Compilation, a New Land Music production.
