Good news, party people-- even though The Monkey Pub doesn't do live music any more, they're making an exeption for us. ubik. has always loved the Monkey, our home away from home, and those shows are always tons of fun. We're going on with Slave Traitor and

ubik.s playing a house party for Michelle's birthday in Northgate tomorrow. We've always loved playing house parties, and this one's sort of for us (we've been waiting for Michelle to turn 13 for a while now. It's very exciting)

Ha! Made it!
ubik.s taken our first run down the west coast, and the band members, Joe (who did merch for us the entire time), and Bruno (the 1977 Dodge van, pulling a trailer full of gear) all made it there and back again in one piece. We'll go farther and longer next …
through an odd confluence of improbable events, Joel, Tyler, Michelle, and Eric found themselves unified in a single, diminutive room with electrical energy humming out of expectant speakers. and then ubik. happened; the world went a little strange after that.
ubik. is an unusual Seattle band dedicated to a unique sonic signature. Cymbals attacked with a violin bow for shrieking industrial noises. Vocals processed live with varying amounts of echo or distortion, or sometimes chopped with a hard tremolo into mechanical stutters. There are no guitars inubik., but both basses spit, snarl, whimper, turn around, and take languid naps: one is as likely to play huge chords as it is to play single-note basslines, the other is fed through an army of effects to come out the other end sounding... well... (that's where it trails off)
though there isn't really any genre for ubik., which is neither rock, punk, pop, metal, nor (ack) "indie," information abounds: ubik. plays regularly around Seattle, and continually keeps all interested parties informed about current events, as well as being easy for anyone to contact (about any randomness, or booking information).
ubik. has just released an album The World Is A Glorious Biomechanical Nightmare, currently available at Silver Platters and Cellophane Square record stores in Seattle, online at CDBaby.com, and at the merch table at all of our shows.
