How many fresh ideas did you had latelly ? Creative process is a mystery to commercial people but we know it always starts with association. Some people use word, some other images. Some creative trust there guts, many other relate on their logic. Many of the creative i know, use the same concept other and other. For instance, you might have a bag of trick that just fit right for that client.
Our business is commercial art. We need people to instanatly get where we want to go. Therefor we use cultural symbol to let them know what we are about. We can not use new stuff or they might just not get it. To me the only way around is to observe the world around us. New things always comes up latelly. Unfortunattly, it is a question of timing. When you are introducing a new symbol, a new fact about your civilization you don't want it to be too soon, so nobody get it, and you don't want it to be too late so that your stuff won't be noticed. Majority rules in our business, no question to that.
Now, lets put it to a test. What was your latest fresh idea ?
Mine was a viral ad for heineken using the sound that you make with a bottle. We created a short clip mixing all the sound together to make a song. ( the adgency did not go for that ).
P.S : Does anyone has a clue on how to put some image into those post ?
What is Art ? Jun 8
Art has always been connected to religion. It used to be, in the occident, a way to teach religion to those who could not read. The last century killed religion in our culture. Art used to be a community action aimed to spread faith in the community. Now, what is it for ? I am just asking here.
I mean Human always needed ritual and a form of illustration of those. What do we illustrated now ? Our own self ! We are supposed to make art for our own pleasure ? That is why in those days evryone can claim to be an artist.
Come on ! What's up with that ? I don't care about yourself ! I only care about myself. That is a fact, evryone as the same survival gene inside. Now, in order to touch people we need to find a string in them and pinch it. Beauty would be if you pinch and make all the string vibrate at the same time. Create an emotion, just not your emotion.

Even if it is a shitty job, we need to do it as if it was a self assignement. Why ? I'm sure evryone told you that, so there is no news here. It is the reasons that made my understanding different.
How many time have you been correcting some truly obvious mistakes ? How many times those mistakes were yours ? Well, i would say, in my case that about 2/3 corrections are my fault. Why ? Because, i usually do my job in a hurry and i know there is someone to check ( client, at least, check evrything ). The thing is, i try to do the job fast, but the check person must interupt working several times in order to check and give me the corrections. Now when i'm doing a job on my on i check evrything and i believe i do a better job.
Having less correction is something that can ease your realationship with your client. You would feel less frustrated and he would feel confident in your skill. One years earlyer, i thougt execution and correction was an inevitable part of the job but a minor one. Now, i know it is half of the job and very important to your client relationship. Trust is evrything here and doing zero error helps.
I know, i'm reinveting the whell for all i know. I gess it is what they call experience. U need to get the old before to get the new.
