University of Unemployed.

To be unemployed can be depressing, deflating and chalk full of debt. But it is also an opportunity to take advantage of an abundant amount of free time.

There are two things that I have been doing and one that I am thinking about that not only are keeping my brain from going to mush, but may actually be making me more employable (if only the potential employers knew).

#1. Go to the gym. Go for a run. Take a yoga class. Take the time to do the 7-day workout plan in Men's Health.

You have the time, it costs very little and the result is, quite literally, health and happiness. Studies have proven time after time that exercise is the best way to ward off depression. It is also a great way to unlock creativity.

#2. Get inspired online. Lately, I have been dedicating an hour or so to TED.com On TED, you can watch hundreds of inspiring and educational presentations by some of the world's greatest minds and personalities. The other day, I watched an inspiring presentation by JJ Abrams on creativity and the 'mystery box.'

The videos are, on average, 20 minutes long and worth every minute (especially when you have a whole day to spare).

The thing I am considering doing, is getting an unoffical degree from MIT. Yep. That's right. Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Did you know that they offer ALL of their courses, assignments and reading material online, free of charge?! An amazing resource, and surely the future of education. Check it out here.

This month Dan and Chip Heath share their insight on how to make figures and statistics relevant. Something marketers, policy makers and just about anyone trying to make a point, should know.

Check it out here.
