Vadim Savchenko, aka Vadz was born in Taganrog, Russia in 1980. Vadz developed through the arts and found his form of expression through painting and photography. At the very beginning, "there were no parties, records or techno; I was just looking for a way to express my non-ordinariness". In 1995 Vadim found a new form of creativity through music. It was his non-standard view of simple things that provided his conception of musical originality and independence.
"I used to play the drums in a local rock-group and when I got acquainted with electronic music in my early childhood, I asked myself: How do they make these crazy brain-warping sounds? I became interested in radio-electronics and once, even got to solder the simplest oscillator with the tone changing! I mean, the nature of sound has always grabbed me". This drive gave Vadz an impulse to produce something himself. From 1996 he started doing it on a PC. "Till 1998 it's been a mad hardcore-music period! Many tracks are lost, and the survived ones make my smile every time, i never showed them to anybody, only to my friends." Step by step, Vadz caught onto synthesis and further upgraded his production techniques. "The software available at that time left much to be desired, but somehow I managed to find something interesting." Emulators of modular analog synthesizers were the peak point of his interest. "I enjoy this technology even now; I find it more flexible and suitable than anything to realize my ideas."
The next step to understanding was the purchase of an old Russian "Polivoks" synthesizer from the school shamus. Only then did his eyes (read - ears) open. "I always liked the minor key melodies and interesting arrangement events and soon I understood what I really needed". From 1999 to 2001 he wrote a lot of experimental and individual tracks, which are still actual and waiting for the good times. And then his techno production began...
By 2002, Vadz had accumulated loads of material and plugged into the Internet looking for people interested in his music. He searched for labels open for new names and challenging ideas and began sending tracks to everybody who would listen. DJs, artists, various mass media correspondents, label owners - all were surprised, shared their opinion and gave some advice. Thus, "one fine day, I contacted Christian Morgenstern (RIP) who really liked my music. He promised to provide some help and gave my demo-CD to his friend - Maral Salmassi (the respected German DJ, artist and label-owner). Without hesitation she decided to release my tracks."
First two records of Vadz were released on Television records In 2004 (Spiderman & Pisdez). The third record on Television (Rust-Off), including two rather fearsome tracks, was released in March 2005. Hence, all three works accumulate various materials, demonstrating different ideas and conceptions of the author. After that, Vadim released some digital releases on different labels. Next vinyl release will follow in 2007, so stay tuned!
Besides sound-production, Vadz is one half the 'Phubriq' movement in Russia. Together DJ Kolumb "we promulgate the independent, free parties and techno-music." When the Phubriq parties are mentioned, the first thing people think of is the special atmosphere, unity and the spirit of underground. "The contingent and music played determine many at the party. We pay a lot of attention to it and of course, we choose quality. I spin techno and electro as I see it; I'm not a hunter for the newest tunes around; I carefully chose those releases that reflect my inner world. Evey set tells a story, every set is a journey!" There were over 30 parties (and counting...) under Phubriq label in home-city (Taganrog, Rostov Region) with international and Russian guests and lots of DJ-trips to different Russian and Ukrainian clubs and festivals since 2003. The first Vadz' international gig is planned for autumn 2007 in Finland. (text written: April 2007)
