The art of innovation or creativity is being able to take known ideas and and re-image them in a uniquely new way. This is facilitated by asking the tough “why” and “what if” questions; being able to see beyond traditional paradigms of thought and then bring them into reality by execution. This is Vincent Hunt - the creative innovator. Boldly challenging the status quo mentality of the masses. ~Martin Schmaltz, Executive Director, Apostolic Missions Inc.

I would like to thank you for your passionate insight, delivery and thriving attitude that was thoroughly illustrated to my listening audience on Wednesday, April 1, 2009. Darnyelle A. Jervey - Author, Speaker, Consultant, Founder & Cheif Empowerment Officer, Incredible One Enterprises LLC.

There is Nobody In the Lobby... Intro to Social Media

One day I went to a friend of mines office building because I was supposed to be conducting a session on the emergence if Social Media and the Networks that drive it. What happened that day was so much more profound - because I received a clear visual representation of what the last shift in online communication ushered in - AND it gave me a base level introduction for anyone trying to wrap their minds around Social Media. SO - what I am about to share with you will help you understand what's going on online as it pertains to what I have now started calling "The Social Life Cycle" of your brand. This is what happened...

When I walked into the building it was a tremendous site. The floors were highly polished and directly to the front of me was a huge, glass Receptionist desk - and oddly enough there was nobody occupying it. As I traversed across the lobby I could hear the faint clamoring of people that was coming from the long corridor that preceded the immaculate lobby area - from behind closed, what I found out later, to be office doors. My meeting with my Colleague was in about 15 minutes, I was fashionably early, so I had a couple of minutes I could use to catch up with myself - so I sat in the sitting area of the huge lobby area. I was alone.

As I sat there I pulled out my business card and looked over it. Being a perfectionist I wanted to make sure that this print was indeed perfect, and without error. As I reviewed my business card I could still hear the faint clamor of people in their offices - as I gleaned at my business card, smiling at it's design, because am a Sucker for great design. Right then in an instant - It hit me...

There is NOBODY in the lobby. Welcome to Social Media.

This experience and observation of the absolute obvious - stirred an idea in me that I have always known but could never line up a situation that demonstrated what is now an absolute "realization" in what's happening on the web today. Let me explain ...

For the past decade we have become familiar with the traditional Web Site. We have built amazing online properties that tell people who we are and what we do - with color, "pizzaz" and "flare". We have managed to build applications that can take in data and spit out amazing reports that we can use to truly "empower" our businesses. We have battled with Goggle, Yahoo, and other Search Engines to insure that our wonder works of "art" can be found by the masses - and that we indeed get an opportunity to tell our stories. And we spend countless hours insuring that what we have created ins INDEED "perfect".

For the last 2-3 years the people that we want to see our Web Sites have started to "figure things out" and they are building Blogs, and Facebook pages faster than we can say... "Pixel".... And they are getting involved in the domain that we have held dear to us as - THE WEB. They are talking among themselves making decisions via services like "Twitter" and "Rejaw" and they are doing it WITH or WITHOUT our amazing web sites. They are communicating and building conversations around the things that are important to them. They are no longer in the Lobby, They are where they want to be - when they want to be there, talking about WHAT they want to talk about.

SO - How does all of this come together?

In todays web environment it's no longer about your "pretty" web site. It's no longer about JUST how "shnazzy" you can make it - BUT it is about the CONVERSATION. When I finally stood up from the lovely couch in the lobby, leaving my awesome business card on the table that was before me - and started walking down the hall and getting closer to the offices that lined the corridors of this immaculate building - is when I started getting a crystal clear view of what the web has become. An orchestration of web services all tied together, powered by the individuals who have something authentic to say, and are not afraid to say it. Each door on this corridor represented a service. MySpace was room 101 and Facebook was room 102, Twitter was full of clamor, it was room room 105, and with THIS revelation I understood even the more, that IF we do not get off the couch - and start walking into these rooms and saying something, we will be left in the lobby.

This is only the half. This experience also gave me a look at Social Media Optimization - and how this new paradigm in online communications basically makes SEO or Search Engine Optimization obsolete. But I will write about that another day...

Are web sites going away, like our traditional Business Cards are quickly fleeting? No. We will all still have prety web sites, however; the stock that we put in them will lessen over time - and we will start to find that customization of our list of services will be the new standard. Do not be surprised if your Company "Higher Up's" start a Facebook page complete with your companies logo's and brand communications... Do not be suprisd if a new department springs up, and this new generation of Worker, Team Player, carries a title like: Twitter Technician or Mashable Architect. Do not be bewildered if you are a Web Designer within your organization and your work-flow turns into a Mind Map of services that you have to maintain - because, THIS is the future of the conversation...

The Art of Vision Placement

Over the past week I have encountered a phenomena not once, not twice but at least 3 times and yesterday (June 5th) it all started coming together. Let's give this a backdrop -

"... And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams..." Acts 2:17

In this passage we see that it has been written that in the last days God will pour his spirit out upon flesh - sons and daughters - so on and so forth - This is becoming a reality today as we see more young people being big dreamers and having grand visions for future business. This should actually come as no surprise - nor should it be "blowing anyone off their rockers", because we have been forewarned of these coming times (this is where we stop looking at the Bible as just a "book"...) and we can better prepare ourselves for a generation that will indeed break every rule that we thought to be true -

Rethink -

I was in a meeting yesterday with a Colleague - Talia Ashley of Hip Hop Grows Up - and she said something that struck me like an freight train - she said... "If companies do not learn how to honor, and recognize the visions and dreams of it's young Leaders then they will be missing out on one of the greatest shift's in business this world has ever seen..." She went on to say - "Leaders have to understand how to properly manage and place the young Visionaries in a way that allows them to fulfill their visions while being positive contributors to the sum of the whole..."

Redefine -

Wow - Now that was deep right? Nah - it gets better, She goes on to say - "The need to master The Art of Vision Placement". That about killed me. I about put my Frap down on the table and stood up, and walked out... NOW that <--- Was RELEVANT. "The Art of Vision Placement" - I would have to believe from the context that she meant... The art of being able to identify ones visions and place them within your organizations vision where they line up the best? Yeppers - we are on to something now... This would redefine the role of a Human Resources person - and give them a new level of thought. NOT only are they looking at "elegant resumes" BUT they are also looking at the interior of the "Future Rock Star" and digging up their passions, dreams and visions - and aligning them properly within the culture of the business... Result? A "Trooper" with a greater sense of fulfillment, AND one who feels a deeper connection with the company they are contributing to. Whoa... Now that's revolutionary -

Reinvent -

Generation Y - Say hello to the "Vision Placement Expert" - The insightful Human Resources "Guru" who goes beyond the lustrous black and white - and digs out some R E A L value. The one who cares that you are hitting the mark in your life - and living a life of purpose AND calling. The "Drone" Killer!! Wow - Human Advancement at it's best eh?

Think Forward.

Impact The World By Impacting The Lives of Children -

I have been hearing this for YEARS now and it was not until just about 3 months ago that it really hit home for me. "It is a proven scientific fact that children who receive regular positive verbal reinforcement - ou perform those who do not, and go on to be much more successful contributors to society..." Wow. So basically if a child is told how much they are loved, how awesome they are, and how creative they are - they grow up with a different mindset than children who don't get this type of reinforcement? The answer is SURE THEY DO - but then the challenge is finding enough "anti-negative" adults in the child's life to perpetuate this theory to fruition.

Speaking from the side of a Father with THREE Kids - I can see this theory in practice all the time. I am constantly telling my children that they are brilliant, creative, witty, charming and amazing - and thus I have a 13 year old that writes business plans and wins awards for innovation. NOW - I am not saying that I am the only factor in this thing BUT I am saying that what I contribute makes a difference... SO THIS IS WHERE IT GETS WITTY FOLKS... PAY ATTENTION -

At Sapien Harbor we decided to start brainstorming on this theory and what came out of it was simply ingenious. We are now taking this scientific fact - and blending it with some good ol modern technology to create what we feel will be the next generation "Positive Role Model" - we call this project The iPositive Bear - A simple plush toy powered by iTunes that has one specific mission all day long... Speak Good Things About Your Children... That's it... Based on touch and interaction the Bear will tell your child amazing things all day, reinforcing good values and letting the child know just how loved he or she is... Powered by iTunes the iPositive Bear can be updated as the child grows with different stages of life - always being mindful of the child's development and age based reinforcement requirements.

We are in the funding stages of this project and we would love to have your help getting this Vision of the ground - simply go to: http://ideablob.com/ideas/2456-P ositively-Impacting-The-World- and vote on this Idea and if we can rally up enough votes Advanta will give us a big fat check for 10,000USD! - Take part in something BIG!

Interestingly enough - right out the gate he starts talking about something that I am insanely passionate about - Microbranding, as seen in my short work "Microbrandology" - a blog I published on Wordpress here recently - that had instant stardom in the Personal Brand space (gotta love that...), and he elegantly speaks about the organic nature of the organization and how it is important for organizations to take an active part in the development of the "brand building" of their Troopers...

I was doing my normal web exploration for the day - and a Colleague of mine Hajj Flemings had posted a Video in Facebook, that faced off with the "Elevator Speech"... FIRST of all he "hit up" on something in the fact that he bought to light that we may NEVER REALLY make a speech in an elevator (lol) THEN he challenges us to ponder the idea of what our UVP is (Unique Value Proposition) to the world, and how would we communicate this if given the opportunity.

Extending The Web Experience Part 1

Over the last few months (perhaps 6 or 7) I have been evangelizing the need for Web Experience Developers to extend the process well beyond the normal interface for their audiences. What do I mean by this? With the massive growth of Social Networks and Organic Searches coupled with insane amounts of space being consumed by Bloggers - the standard web experience is being challenged at every level. Web users are looking for information in profound new ways and they are doing it more now than ever before. Something that I started to notice more than a year ago - was that people were more attracted to the work that I was doing on my Blog - even more so than within the content of my actual site at http://www.sapienharbor.com. Another thing that I noticed was that people loved to RSS feed the content that I was writing to the RSS Reader of choice - completely bypassing a trip to my blog space. SO with these realizations in mind - I quickly started realizing was that UNLESS there was a way that we could make the sites that we make portable - then we would begin to miss traffic that is being sent in various direction on the web because of a few factors -

1. Bloggers
2. Social Media
3. The Desire for Interaction

So over the next few days I am going to share with you a set of practices that you can use to truly engage your Users and at the same time extend the web experience in a way thats not only effective - but totally seamless.

The Challenge of Change

Something I realized. And it took this last change in my life to really drive this point home with me.

From day to day I run into people within and without my sphere of influence and I hear a very familiar sound coming from just about everybody that I run into. IF you are reading this you may too have this same sound coming from you, and you are caught in the same cycle that many are - and you really don't have a clue on when the cycle will come to some sort of conclusion. What I hear is this...

"I am not sure what my purpose is OR what I am supposed to be doing..."

Now - IF we are all honest with ourselves we have all been here or we ARE here and we are have no clue on how to get ourselves to a point of comfort or P E A C E within ourselves about our day to day function our PURPOSE. The single most valuable information that I can pass along without getting too long winded, or even venturing into the "B O R I N G" is this...

"Never be afraid to reinvent yourself."

Sounds easy enough right? Well believe me, it's NOT THAT EASY in fact - there are so many obstacles to this "seemingly simple" task that it can indeed become a daunting task. Many of the obstacles happen inside the mind and are made up of all of the voices that we hear from day to day, telling us that we need to be more "stable" or "grounded". The words "stable" and "grounded" can become two of the deadliest words in the Human vocabulary if they are used as "anchors" in our lives. When one passionately seeks stability or a state of being grounded with no consideration to change and growth, she/he in an essence "cut's off" a dimension of their being that is directly connected to purpose and destiny.

Again - You have to never be afraid to reinvent yourself DAILY. The process of reinvention is the natural progression and evolution of who you are to become and what you will be...
