During Barack Obama's inauguration, I was so pleased that nonbelievers were acknowledged. I, myself, being what I consider "nothing" or "no religion" take away a great appreciation for any recognition given to those of us that prefer to think rationally and logically.
However, it should be noted that while the publicity around this inauguration and President Obama's speech gave a much needed hype to the nonbeliever situation, it is not in any way a change from the true core movement of the United States of America. Barack simply joins a long and well-appreciated list of influential members of our country that shaped it to what it is today.
There are plenty more where that came from, of course. The understanding of such wise men to be reasonable and free thinkers seems pretty obvious a necessity. A Christian nation? No sir. Rather, the departure from acknowledging nonbelievers and more specifically the freedom to worship or not worship as you please, is the real change in this country. The evangelical movement to rewrite history into labeling these United States into states united by Christ is the real departure from the core principles of this country.
