Zhang Weiwei is one of the leading figures on the Chinese folk scene and is well known for supporting Wan Xiao Li and for having been in the legendary Wild Children. With Guo Long, they both were founding members of the famous Kazakh folk band IZ, but now they play together as a duet guitar - accordian to present their first solo release. > Glamorous Pharmacy Avant-garde Folk
Having been around since 1999, the Beijing-based Glamorous Pharmacy has built up quite the reputation in the Chinese experimental art scene. Part of the band (accordianist and drummer) were members of the legendary Chinese folk group Wild Children, and they've since taken the notion of Chinese folk to experimental extremes. They've made rare local appearances at the 4Live Festival and avant-garde frontman Xiao He occasionally pops into town to yowl away with his cheeky brethren Top Floor Circus. Internationally, they were one of the first Chinese bands to tour England, even supporting Lou Reed at the 2007 Rencontres d'Arles in France. “Rumbling Footsteps”, their third studio effort, does not disappoint. It's a powerful medley of experimental rock, percussion and a mix of Chinese and Kazakh influences, permeating into Indian and Middle Eastern sounds. The theatrical album is filled with what sounds like chaotic improvisation, averaging over seven minutes per track. If it were a play it would be labeled 'heater of the absurd' due to its obvious parody, dismissal of realism and hard-hitting sounds. Using mini-cymbals, glockenspiels, an accordion, bass and drums, the record moves through deliberately clichéd folk, polka, ska and metal riffs, even veering into Peking Opera, a slapstick comedy show and the Bugs Bunny theme (one of several unusual song endings). As these strange sounds, drummer boy samples, raps and unusual voice techniques play out, it's clear that this is one of the most original, inventive and refreshing compositions around. Just be prepared to listen with an open mind.

In recent years Xiao He started reaching deep into the surreal folk traditions of a fast-disappearing China. With his combination of southern Chinese mysticism and Northern China gruff he has created a strange, stirring vision of a 19th-century China crashing violently into a 21st-century China of boiling rivers and crumbling factories. Xiao He has released many CDs over the years but continues to astonish audiences, including recently 50 shows European & American tour, with his progressively eclectic sound that draws upon traditional instrumentation and vocal arrangements looped within his live performances.

Troy Von Balthazar（夏威夷）源于Nirvana同一时期的音乐运动。1993至94年， Kurt Cobain曾邀请只有二十出头的TVB的组合Chokebore参与Nirvana史上的美国最后一次巡回演出。Kurt Cobain没有看走眼，TVB确实是难得可贵的词曲作家和演绎者。他与他的组合在世界各地频繁演出并录制了6张大碟直至2003年乐队解散。从此TVB开始他的独奏生涯，包括在著名Elliott Smith录音室录制了他的个人首张专辑的一部分以及直至2006年的长时间世界巡回演出（总数超过200场）。在此后一段时间，他集中精力撰写了他的第一部微型小说《3个女孩子》，但是他从未放弃过对音乐的执着与热爱。与大师Leonard Cohen的邂逅与深厚友谊使他投入更多新的歌词创作。他的两张新独奏专辑于2009年问世（专辑中TVB一人操刀：吉他，唱，鼓，键盘），在他新一轮的世界巡演计划中，这位美国俊朗的老牌音乐家将向中国乐迷们演绎他的新歌曲，按他自己对他新曲的评定是“悲伤-转化剂”。
Expanding on the slow, sad landscapes of CHOKEBORE's later works, Troy Von Balthazar first released a series of homemade CD-R EPs under the moniker "B. Balthazar", performing all instruments (mainly acoustic and electric guitars, drums, vocals and taped samples) himself. These two EPs were re-released together on the B. Balthazar MCD, which was sold exclusively at shows during Balthazar's first European tour in 2003. This tour earned him increasing support in the European indie rock community. Reverting to the moniker he used with Chokebore, he released the self-titled Troy Von Balthazar EP in November 2004. After a small French tour supporting this release, he flew back to Los Angeles to record his debut album at Elliott Smith's "New Monkey" studio. Troy Von Balthazar performed, recorded and mixed all the tracks himself, with the exception of some female vocals contributed by French musician Adeline Fargier. The Troy Von Balthazar LP was released by Olympic Disk on October 10, 2005. An extensive European tour followed, spanning most of the year 2006. In early 2007, Balthazar returned to Los Angeles to record his second album. In the winter of 2007 he toured Germany, Austria and Switzerland and released his self-titled album Troy Von Balthazar in Germany, followed by his TVB 3 EP CD that are sold at his concerts only. TVB has also been reportedly acting in french indi films with feature film requests and has recently released his first book 3GIRLS. He is currently writing his 2nd book and touring extensively in France, Germany, Czech Republic in summer 2009. A digital version of his next LP will be previously released in Europe and Japan on May 2010. For the moment, WB Records has released a special 500 CDs chinese version. A compilation from TVB recordings from 2003 to 2009. '8 songs for chinese girls' is released for TVB's China Tour 2010. Only available for his performances and selected stores in China.

Eyal Maoz is an ensembles leader, solo performer and composer. He currently leads numerous original music ensembles such as Edom, Dimyon, Crazy Slavic Band, co-lead The Maoz-Sirkis Duet and cooperates with top NYC composers and musicans. He is a Tzadik Record artist and a guest member of John Zorn's Cobra. Eyal ensembles performed at major music festival worldwide such as the Montreal Jazz Festival, Red Sea International Jazz Festival, NYC 2007 Winter Jazzfest, Brooklyn BAM next Festival, Verizon Jazz Festival, the NY Jewish Music & Heritage Festival, Florida Music Harvest, The Jewzapalooza Festival in NYC and more. He was featured on MTV & NFR.
