Recording's going exceptionally well for our next album. We've been tracking everything in my living room, using the room microphones to capture the 1950's wood floor feel. We're about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way done, although we keep going back and honing and writing parts as we go. This is what we love about self-recording - we can take the time to mull over a part and see how it sits with us over time and what the song wants. The drums in particular are sounding freaking fantastic.
We took a break this week from recording tracks for a crazy fun photo session with Steven Taylor on Labor Day, in advance of our promotions partnership with Fanatic Promotion leading up to the release of the next album (which we're excited about! Also check out Fanatic's myspace page at this link). On the morning of the photo shoot we had this out of the blue idea to go in and find some of our favorite old records from my collection and cover the wall with them. Steven pushed us to take it one step further, and we ended up covering the ceiling, walls, and floor of my living room. So, our Labor Day morning was spent hanging dusty Mingus, Sam Cooke, Rush, and Paul Simon records while listening to Bob Dylan and dressing up in old jackets....check out the photos below to get a feel for it and you'll be able to see our actual edited press versions soon.
