Books
Dangerous Angels: the Weetzie Bat Books - This series has the most heart wrenching and poetic writing I’ve ever read. The prose is beautiful and the characters are ones you fall in love with.
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Ever since I was in the 6th grade, these have been my favorite books of all time, and will remain in my heart forever.
Albums
For Emma: Forever Ago by Bon Iver - This album is without a doubt the most beautiful music I’ve ever heard. It is written and performed solo by Eau Claire native, Justin Vernon and has the most evocative lyrics of anything I’ve listened to.
Origin of Symmetry by Muse - For something a little more upbeat, I must have one of my old favorite bands, Muse. The music gets me on my feet and slamming around the moshpit.
Food
Apples - I constantly crave apples. I have no idea why, but I know that I couldn’t possibly live life without them.
Sushi - If I were rich, I would live off this stuff. I love all the kinds: tuna, eel, lobster, avocado, cucumber…everything.
Drinks
Coffee, Black - At the height of my addiction, I was at approximately eight cups a day. I’ve weaned myself down to about two or three now, but I always rely on it to get me though the day.
Green Tea - loaded with yummy antioxidants, green tea is an especially good drink for you, and it tastes good too.
Magazines
NYLON - Nylon is pretty much the only magazine I read regularly, and that’s because I get a free subscription. It’s loaded with great fashion and interesting articles and unique ideas.

Nikki: My friend Nikki would be on my fav five plan because she is one of my best friends and I can always rely on her. Whether I’m simply bored and want to talk to someone, or if I want to plan an exciting trip, Nikki is always up for anything and she knows how to have a good time. Also, If I’m ever in any kind of trouble, or stranded somewhere, she can be counted on to get me out of there.
Dad: My dad is one of my best friends as well, and he takes care of me no matter what. He knows how to treat a little lady such as me, and we always have a fun time when we hang out. I’ll call him up and we’ll go out for dinner together, and talk about everything. He’s also there if I ever need a little help with cash.
ChaCha: For those of you who don’t know what “Cha Cha” is, I’ll explain. Cha Cha is a texting service that you can use to get practically any question answered. It has saved me many times when I struggled to find the answer to something, or find out the address of something, or to find the weather of the next day.
Evan: My brother Evan is my connection to home, which I am rarely at. If I ever need to arrange something with my family, he is there giving me the updates. I can call him up and we go for long runs together whenever he’s not feeling lazy.
Kyle: Kyle is another one of my best friends and, like ChaCha, is an excellent resource to use. Whenever my friends and I are bored, we can call him up and he is always ready to suggest something for us to do together. We always end up having a blast when we hang out with him.

Now, I’m not exactly the romantic type, but I do know how to make up a good story. My ideal first date would take place while I was on vacation in Italy. Convenient, huh? I would meet an Italian guy in the marketplace and his name would be DeAngelo. He would have long, wavy black hair and pretty brown eyes. We would talk a while and he would listen and wouldn’t look at the hot Italian girls walking by. After getting to know one another, we would arrange to meet for a date later that evening. He wouldn’t tell me specifically where we’re going, which is probably for the best because I am new to the city and wouldn’t know where to go anyways.
After getting primped and ready, he comes to wherever I am just as the sun is setting. He rides a motorcycle, which is awesome, and we ride together through the little streets of Venice. We stop and sit down in a little outdoor café where we order little hors’ oeuvres and a big bottle of expensive wine. At twilight, we decide to ditch the place but we take the wine with us and wrap two wine glasses in newspaper and head off. This time, we’re at the beach together and he has a blanket, which he puts down on the sand. We sip our wine and talk about everything: love, traveling, politics and ourselves.
He is respectful and intelligent and aside from being knowledgeable (but not in a rub-it-in-your-face kind of way), he also has a great sense of humour.
On my ideal first date, the sky will conveniently light up with fireworks as he drives me home and gives me a goodnight kiss on the cheek. Was this date idealistic or what?
The best thing about a vacation date?
...no strings attached!
I'm not one for comittment... :(

Castaway: If I’m going to be stranded on a deserted island, I’m going to need a movie to relate to what I’m going through. Castaway is the perfect candidate because it is all about a guy who gets stranded on an island. It’s as simple as that. Maybe give me a few pointers, or when I grow psychotic from all of the isolation he can be my imaginary friend.
The Neverending Story: This movie is a great pick to take with me because of it’s nostalgic value. Ever since I was little, I have loved this movie because it could always transport me to different worlds. It is an all-around excellent movie and a great movie to take my mind off my helpless predicament.
13 Going On 30: Everybody needs a good chick flick to cheer them up, so that is why I chose this movie. After seeing nothing but sand, palm trees and ocean, it would be a relief to see this movie because it takes place in New York City.
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Because it allows me to cram in three movies that run almost three hours each, I have chosen the Lord of the Rings Trilogy because it would take up a lot of my time. However, it also happens to be my favorite movie of all time. With this movie, I won’t go crazy as fast as I normally would. This movie is comforting to me and would keep me grounded, at least for a little while.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: For a darker, wittier movie that reminds me of home, I chose eternal sunshine. The soundtrack and effects are aesthetically stunning and so are the characters, whom remind me of myself in different ways. This movie is quite a bit different from the rest of the movies I chose, but in truth it relates to them because of the fact that when I watch it, I forget about all my problems and the world around me. I could watch it a million times and still notice small details in it that I’ve missed.

My relatives and I have never really been the closest. Most of them live in other states or even other countries. However, one pair of my relatives have always remained close by: my grandparents. My mother’s parents have always been a great source of comfort to me. Ever since we were much younger, my grandparents would endlessly dote upon my brothers and I. To this day, If I am ever feeling stressed out or having a difficult time, I know that I can just relax for a while at my grandparent’s house and unwind. The atmosphere of their home is always comforting.
It is steady, constant, and unchanging. You always know what to expect there, unlike the rest of the world outside their door. When I was younger, my grandpa would talk to me non-stop. He would ramble on and on about his time in the Nazi prison camps. As a kid, I found this boring; hardly even tolerable. Nowadays, I listen to what he says, and I usually find it fascinating, although sometimes he still goes on for a bit longer than I would like. I will still listen to him as long as he’s here.
As for my grandma, she is simply amazing. She is by far the most loving person I’ll ever meet, and she has the greatest sense of humour. I personally believe that she is under the impression that she is still in her twenties. She is as “hip” and rambunctious as ever. Also, her cooking is amazing. No matter what, my grandparents will always be there for me, until they are gone.

The song I would choose to talk about would be the song “Your Hand In Mine” by the band Explosions in the Sky. It is an incredibly simple, yet epic song. It has no words or vocals whatsoever. It is completely instrumental and electronic. It’s genre could be considered as ambient, but I personally don’t think that there is a genre that could describe this kind of a song. The reason I chose this song is because of the memories I have linked to it. This past summer was a time in my life that I will always remember, and this particular song always reminds me of it and brings me back to it, even in the dead coldness of winter. It reminds me of the places I went, the wonderful new people I met and things I accomplished. It even brings back some not-so-great moments, but it’s all a part of the process.
This past summer I attended a pre-college program for art students. I was completely independent for one glorious month, and I remember sitting in the middle of downtown, sketching or talking or whatever we did. My good friend Taylor would always bring her iPod speakers and she would play this song all of the time for the group of us. After that, I downloaded the song myself and could not stop listening to it all summer. I played it for all of my friends once I got home, and pretty soon, they were hooked too. Now, every time I listen to this song, I close my eyes and I can see memories of the summer flash beneath my closed eyelids. I see fireworks, faces, swimming in lakes, long talks, concerts, car rides, bright lights, long nights and crazy times.
I think that everybody should have a set of songs that they can relate to certain periods in their lives. That way, when you listen to them, you get to experience it all over again.

"We all admire the spangled acrobat with classical grace meticulously walking his tight rope in the talcum light; but how much rarer art there is in the sagging rope expert wearing scarecrow clothes and impersonating a grotesque drunk! I should know."
