A Quick Biographical Sketch in the Third Person:
Where is This is the solo project of Mark Ward. It began on a bus from Limerick to Dublin in 2006 when, after playing a gig with FMC, Mark told his bandmates that he wrote a song lyric that wasn't intended for FMC, but for 'something else'. After some tentative (read: awful) attempts at music which consisted of one-finger bass/vocals, computerised music was discovered and hundreds of hours of programming began. Most proper electronic music began in 2007 since, post-FMC break-up, he had a lot more free time.
Alongside the interest in pop/indie/electronica, Mark also became (more) interested in Experimental and Noise music. His first noise record was written mostly in 2007 and his interest in noise music continues parallel to his love of electropop.
There's also piano music too, but that's a secret.
The Music is in the Polyrhythms:
There are three distinct aspects to WiT -
WiTNOISE: The main focus of WiT at the moment is noise and I've written four Noise records so far In the Privacy of Your Own Home (noise, noisepop, experimental), You Dream About Work (experimental, electronic, noise, ambient, drone, post-rock) and Improvisations for Gated Communities (noise, noise rock, ambient, drone) which is the noise record I think I shall be remembered for. It has been split up into three eps named after the project's rarely used extended name Where is This Music You Speak of, Fucker? and non-Gated Communities tracks have been added to each ep, all three of which run to about 25 minues each. The most recent record is called Digital Fire and features digital and analogue noise ranging from pretty scree, to ambience, to HMW. Related records include the digitally percussive Sad Glee Brief Coup. I would love to some noise gigs. Contact me at the email below.
WiTDISCO: These are my pop records. They are electronic and, unlike the noise records, most tracks have vocals. The major two records are Thoroughly Airborne and We're All a Bunch of Fucking Animals (both of which are pop, electronic, lyrical, indie). There's also a b-sides/rarities collection called Ephemera! Ephemera! (of course to have that, I'll have to release singles first. I've lots of other electronic songs floating around too. The pop record that I'll be remembered for (hopefully) is currently called Now That's What I Call a Concept Album!, or Scare Tactics and is a concept album about a man who, dumped by his boyfriend, accidentally creates a massive void in space above the earth, which as you can imagine the world isn't too pleased about. I'm still working on this.
It is this style of music that I play live and I love to play live, although I don't do it that often (which needs to change!).
WiTPIANO: I play piano, and a lot of songs have started with a riff that I wrote on piano, and then programmed and built upon. I've a lot of piano/vocal songs that never found a home on any records, mainly because they seem to want their own record. So, one of these days, I'd like to do a record with some friends, real instruments, quick takes, piano, vocals, drums, bass or guitar. You never know, it could be sooner than you'd think.

LIVE REVIEW: "I have never once messaged the naked lunch feature act after their performance, but have to say, you were the best damn headliner we've had. It was an absolute joy to behold... the tracks were incredibly well and imaginatively produced and the vocals really provided the perfect heart-on-sleeve indie counterpoint to the electronica, investing it with the sort of soul only the calibre of LCD Soundsystem can muster..." - Mike at The Naked Lunch.
New demos posted regularly.

A Brief Bit about Bored Bear
Bored Bear Recordings is a record label run by myself and Mark Hanlon to put out our own stuff, and maybe one day, others (as such, no submissions please). However, should any record labels stumble across this page and fall in love with me and my music, please do not let this put you off. I've a bunch of labels I'd love to work with/release stuff on. Any offers of record deals/undying love should be emailed to the email in the previous section.
