The Dreaming Project

Noah / Neoryzer gave me a very atmospheric track to work with, which was already very good, but as I listened to it I knew it needed something to increase appeal by the fairer sex. Immediately came to mind was a moody almost barbershop soulful backing in places. Of course strings were going to be needed for commercial appeal too. My first battle was to work away of making a melody that I play which would be in tune when listening to dance 6 but also still be in tune when re-sampled after import into dance 6 changed it in an attempt to convert from an assumed a40 bpm to 136. This was not easy and in fact I am sure the strings and choir I created with Reason are still a little discordant but the result sounds intentionally detuned with a human feeling so I did not change any further. After I had suitable orchestral sounds, I had an attempt at adding them to the original mix which I was not that happy with, things were a bit rumbly in places as the reverb on the original bass line did not fit the new wider sounding mix which had resulted from the new backing and strings. Also now when the main hook synth reentered later in the mix the clap no longer made things more exciting. My remedial action was to reduce the echo and reverb on the bass and some of the other instruments a little, and cut the drums and added a new cymbal on left side of the stereo filed before the clap/bass drum/hat cobination entered. Also I chose to slowly fade the choir in to give the original vocal more strength, and to make it sound like the choir had joined in to empathise with the lead female vocalist. The strings I made a little louder and added extra reverb. One other thing I did for this mix was towards the conclusion I increased echo and reverb on the vocal putting the strings and choir almost in front of it. Lastly I needed a more 100% intune upbeat string for the ending. I imported the whole mix into Music Studio Gold which unlike Dance 6 does not change pitch of samples in relation to bpm unless tempo is changed after import. I then used Reason and my ear to create a harminically suitable string against a looped "jam" section of the ending of the mix. After completion I imported that into Music studio Gold, and dragged it the part where I obtained the "jam" loop. The end result is very dreamy.
