Matthew 20:17-28
In this day in time, we get taught to be the biggest, baddest, coolest, best thing in town or at least for guys. We have to be the best. I guess girls are taught to be the most popular, best looking, most fashionable, coolest girl around. Hopefully I am close to that assumption, if not I hope you, girls, are able to get the point. Maybe another way of say this is we are taught to have power. Power comes from a multiple sources in our life. Some comes through popularity, knowing the right people, being athletic, or a people pleaser. Doing these things gives us that attention we want, also known as the power we desire. We can see the disciples get a little angry in this passage because they thought James and John might have more power. Jesus comes in tells them not be like a power hungry king and throw there weight around. Jesus told them that their life was going to be different. He told them, if they want to be great they must serve the people around them. Jesus tells them that he came to serve not to be served. WOW! We need to do the same in our life. We need to open our eyes to those around us and serve. I am challenging the students to open their eyes, so that they see ways to serve their peers! I want them to start helping each other instead of tearing each other down.
