MAKING MUSIC WITH YOUR MOUTH

YACHT-Cameraphone.jpg

Photo: From Mike Royer's cameraphone from last night (June 11th).

I'm in Los Angeles for two more shows with LCD Soundsystem at the El Rey Theater, a very very nice old theater that feels super old Hollywood to me, sort of Barton Fink vibes.

I decided that I hate flying. Yesterday I woke up at 6 to catch a plane to Los Angeles via Las Vegas. Maybe it's the connections that I hate, maybe it's the early morning flights that I hate, or maybe it's the times when the plane feels like it's falling for 10-15 minutes straight. Yesterday's turbulence was rough, to the point of sweaty palms and LOST running through my mind over and over. Maybe I WANT the plane to crash so I can land on the weird island?

I just need to post this blog entry so I remember to do these things. Jona, remember to eat before flying. For reals, I think this is super important. Eat a lot, too. Get full, not just a snack or smoothie or whatever you tend to eat under time constraints. And fuck connecting flights. It's totally worth the extra monies to fly direct when you can. Lastly, don't fly so early in the morning. It's never cool.

Now I'm hanging out with Bobby Birdman while he designs a new skateboard deck for Marriage, and speaking of Marriage, there's a new website about to launch that is looking super beautiful. Marriage has expanded from being a record label with additional products like books and skateboards, to being just MARRIAGE, which means a record label, a publishing house, a gallery, a recording studio, a life jam, and an art zone. Marriage is one of the most exciting and loving collaborative family I've ever been involved with, and I'm so excited to be a part of it and to watch it get deeper and deeper.

With that I want to leave you with one of the deepest projects any of my immediate friends has ever delved into, Veneer Magazine. Flint, from before, has made a 5-year/18 issue commitment to a quarterly trade journal without any specific trade in mind. The Ve website reminds me of those early web projects like mediaboy.net that just take you on a long trip and are full of secret links and places. The blog is hidden! It's getting linked, so I'll link it here, but it's almost impossible to find it from the website.

OK, I'll leave you to it. The west coast tour with Architecture in Helsinki starts tomorrow!
