Coming from Thessaloniki, Greece, composing and producing electronic, ambient and house music, film composer & live set performer.
Yorgos Pontsaris comes from a family with no music education or background. He has never gone to a music school to learn music either. He had his first touch with a music keyboard instrument and sequencer, at the age of 8. Amazed by electric guitar sounds, when 15 years old he bought an electric guitar, spending many hours a day teaching himself, with the help of some books, with absolutely no interest in learning to read or write notes, or score, but practicing "ear" and techniques. About the same year, he made his 1st music composition, by recording chords and scales of 2 classic guitars at a home tape recorder. This leaded him to create a rock band, and jammin at studios of Thessaloniki, at the same period that he was clubbing with dance music playing from the speakers. That was also the time to go on FM as a "pirate" setting everything up at home, and (M)odulating the (F)requency with music.
Around 1990, he got deeper into professional midi sequencing, making electronic music also by using Pc computers, and Amiga 500 or Commodore 64 earlier. That got expanded by spending all his money on hardware equipment and synths. At that period, it was almost impossible to find people with the same interest and exchange ideas or knowledge. He started composing ambient, by putting together electronic, natural instruments as well as natural atmospheres, while working at a well known music store of his city, selling music instruments. Although he was already djing electronic music, his first official public appearance was in 1999 by composing and producing an ambient, long-play movie soundtrack (The Hunt For The Hare / To Kynigi Tou Lagou), and got nominated for the Greek National Award of the best original film soundtrack, at the 40th International Thessaloniki Film Festival. In the same year, he also composed soundtracks for 2 long play documentaries.
After a long period of working as dj, playing house music, learning more about audio production, but having no inspiration for music compositions, he comes back in the beginning of 2008, by releasing 'Far From True' and 'Summer Energy' EPs, giving us pure electronic, deep and true progressive-house output. 2009 begins with the powerful and masterfully crafted 'Housemade EP', combining his immaculate production skills and unique sounds with deep basslines, funky house rhythms and hypnotizing tech grooves that are bound to have underground and crossover appeal. Irresistible club tech!
